Many seniors from the the Class of 2023 have come from various Wisconsin high school, near and far. So fun to photograph in and outside of our Waunakee photography studio. I truly appreciate those they chose K Jay Photos for their senior portraits, an award winning Madison WI Photographer. The photography studio, located just outside of Madison, WI, specializing in senior portraits, was buzzing with energy this past summer. So many wonderful high school seniors with a variety of passions and interests. Each senior, beautiful in their own way, allowing me to capture their beauty through my lens. What a treat.
Most popular question to our photography studio when booking senior portraits, what should we bring? Often our senior portrait customers have spent most of their childhood years practicing a hobby, sport or other interest. Our Madison WI photography studio always encourages our customers to bring along props to define those passions. To capture just a few senior pictures with those props, in most cases, does not take much time for the the photographer to include in the senior portrait session.
What to Wear and Bring
One of the most popular question asked when booking the senior portrait session is what to wear and bring? Here is a list of suggestions we offer to our high school seniors:
- Clothing that is comfortable and flattering (whether sitting or standing)
- Face powder to remove any shine that humidity and heat may cause.
- Hair brush and hair spray, especially for windy days.
- Most important a confident expression, preferably a smile
Often the photos with props are our customers favorite senior pictures. Sometimes, just getting in hand a volleyball for example, helps relax the high school senior for example that doesn’t like to have their portrait taken. Plus they end up with some cool sports senior portraits too! So don’t forget the sports equipment that has been an important part of their life.

Wow! What a year/ Thank you to all of the families and now friends who have trusted me to capture your senior portraits through my lens. I am incredibly grateful to pursue my passion for photography and that you chose me as your high school senior photographer. It’s more than just great senior pictures but a great experience I hope you found as well. This is such a special time for your high school senior and so important to document. This beautiful Sun Prairie WI high school senior wanted more then just the average senior pictures when searching for a photographer. We specialize in high school senior pictures and strive to encourage our seniors to express themselves in their senior portrait session. Senior Pictures Check List.
This may answer many of your questions before you come to K Jay Photos Photography for your senior pictures. The Photographer moves really quickly during your senior picture session to maximize the most of your session and some of these tips will help. Additional helpful information here. Also, K Jay Photos Photography has partnered this year with both the Buckle Store in West Towne Mall and Francesca’s Collection in West Towne Mall here in Madison, WI. They can help you select outfits for each of the below storyboard. Just show them the storyboard (Beach, Urban, Country, Park) to show them where you will be photographed at. This is all decided ahead of time with K Jay Photos. Click here for more details.
For girls, we suggest you wear a white cami underneath your top to help you have the ability to change tops quickly out while we are out and about. Minimize eye shadow and lip gloss that will create glare, if your lips are dry wear chapstick instead. A majority of our senior portrait customers select the Lot’s to Choose From Package which we typically can get through 5-9 outfits depending on how many outdoor locations we visit and how difficult your outfits are to change in and out of. If it is warm and humid out on the day of your photography session make sure to bring along a face powder to remove shine as needed. If it is windy out you may want to consider bringing along a hair brush. For make up, wear it as you usually wear your make up. We do not want to capture someone that isn’t really you. If you are planning on incorporating sports equipment or sports clothing, a prom dress or any props that you might bring with please make sure to let us know before you arrive so we can add it to our plan for your senior portrait session.
For guys, make sure to bring along clothes that are nicely pressed and that fit you comfortably. We have many guys wear a t shirt under their shirts and many that don’t. It is really your personal preference and there is no right or wrong to many of your outfit selections as in the end they are your senior pictures and we want you to love them. We suggest you choose clothing options that are not to busy with prints unless it fits your personality than by all means bring that crazy wild shirt. Usually we suggest you wear one pair of jeans or shorts that goes with many of your shirt options. Typically 4-6 outfits during our Lot’s to Choose From Session is what we will get through. We do suggest you bring more options for us to choose so bring along additional shirts if you can. If you are planning on incorporating sports equipment, jerseys or any props, please make sure to let us know before you arrive so we can incorporate it into your senior portrait session.

The 2013 KJay Photos Model Rep Search is on seeking Madison WI Area High School girls graduating in 2013 . We are searching for models from high school in the Greater Madison WI Area. You must be outgoing, love to be photographed and like to have fun! KJay Photos has partnered with Francesca’s Collections again this year and one lucky girl will win a complete outfit from Francesca’s Collections!
Here’s the scoop!
Plan on having fun! Feel like a Super Model! Apply with KJay Photos to be chosen as a 2013 Rep.
- You will receive your photographs for FREE and we will place them on Facebook for others to see.
- Francesca’s Collections will even pick out an outfit for you to be photographed in during your KJay Rep Portrait Session this winter. Call to schedule your appointment with either Sara or Whitney at Francesca’s Collections Boutique at West Towne Mall 608-833-0052 at least one week prior to your 2013 Rep Winter Photo Session.
We will take the rest of your senior pictures in May or early June which will be photographed outdoors. If you are selected as one of our 2013 Super Models, we will notify you in advance so you can set up an appointment to meet with the Francesca’s Collection wardrobe specialists. We are limiting this to just a few high school seniors graduating in 2013 from the Madison WI Area. So hurry and sign up below.
Additional details:
You must sign a contract with KJay Photos to have the rest of your senior pictures taken in May/early June. You must select the Lot’s to Choose from Package that will be due on the day of your May/early June Senior picture appointment. A $100.00 deposit is required at the time of the Super Model Photoshoot which will apply completely to your Lot’s to Choose from Package. You will need to sign the contract which informs you that we have the rights to utilize your pictures and video in various marketing pieces on and off the web.
To Apply complete the form below before 3/15/12 and you will be notified by 4/1/12 if you have been chosen. Simple as that! Good luck!
She is fierce on the softball field!
She came to have her senior pictures taken and brought with her this broken bat with her Mom explaining by her side “she is one heck of a softball player”. As fierce as she is on the field our goal was to capture her off the field in our studio showcasing her passion for softball. I think we did it:) What do you think?
